Connecting the Dots: Utilizing Assessments in Play Therapy

March 12 @ 1:00 pm - 4:15 pm

Time: 1:00 pm to 4:15 pm

CEs: 3 CEs in Play Therapy

Format Delivery: Face-to-face

Content Description:

This play therapy training examines the role of assessment in ethically grounded, developmentally responsive practice. Participants will explore how clinical interviews, observational methods, standardized testing and art-based assessments inform play therapy case conceptualization and treatment planning. Emphasis will be placed on integrating standardized caregiver-report measures, including the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and Parenting Stress Index (PSI), into the therapeutic process while maintaining the play therapy relationship and progression. The workshop will address appropriate administration, interpretation within the scope of practice, cultural considerations, and documentation consistent with best practice. Participants will evaluate the strengths and limitations of projective and standard assessments and learn how to integrate findings to support case conceptualizations, parent consultations, create measurable treatment goals and treatment plans to increase clinical decision-making. This training strengthens clinicians’ ability to use assessments as a tool that enhances therapeutic attunement, supports the Therapeutic Powers of Play, and promotes ethical, effective play therapy practice.
